Family Legacy Stamp Set

As soon as I saw this stamp set I immediately had the idea to create something for our family reunion auction. When I was flipping though a Parchment magazine, Paper! (Issue 9), I saw a cute way to present a gift of tea bags. I thought it could easily be adapted to create a mini album. I am sorry, but this post has a lot of photos; click on any of the photos for a larger picture.

I used Family Legacy and Simply Said to create the title and Yesterday & Today—Cardmaking and a Black Journaling Pen (.03) to decorate the cover.

All of the photos and journaling I had in mind were facing pages so I needed a way to start the album. I really like the fancy words and the accompanying phrases from the Family Legacy stamp set so I used the stamps to create a generic page. After the hop I will add "created by" and the date to the inside cover.

Meet my twice great grandparents. They are the grandparents of my maternal grandfather. I have the original portraits of them and a few years ago I took the portraits to be scanned and restored as best as they could. The company did a fabulous job. I used the Family Legacy stamp set to embellish the pages.

The left page lists the children of my twice great grandparents with their date of birth and date of death. I used a flourish from Family Legacy on the page. The right page is a photo I found online (findagrave.com) of my twice great grandparents. I used Yesterday & Today—Cardmaking and a Black Journaling Pen (.03) to frame the photo.

The left page lists the children in the photos on the right. I used one of fancy words, its accompanying phrase and flourishes from the Family Legacy stamp set to decorate the page. I used a flower from Yesterday & Today—Cardmaking to frame the photo on the right page.

The left page lists the grandchildren of my twice great grandparents. My grandfather is the very last grandchild on the list. Since the way I laid out the words did not allow me enough room to have a title at the top of the page, I used "grand" and "sister" (for the S) from Cherishing her.

I have enough space in my accordion folds to add two more Flip Flaps, but I did not have enough time before the hop. Since the ribbon is removable, I can easily add the Flip Flaps and pages later.

If  you would like to create your own mini album this project takes three sheets of 12" x 12" cardstock and will hold six Flip Flaps.

To create the covers and spine I made the following cuts:

I cut first at 10¾" inches and set aside the scrap. Then I cut at 4⅜. Using the 6⅜" wide strip I cut at 4⅜" twice to create a front and back cover. For the spine I scored at 6" then at ¾" six times on both sides of the first score line. Accordion fold starting with a valley fold at the center.

To create the pages I made the following cuts on two sheets of cardstock:

I cut first at 11 13/16" (eleven and thirteen-sixteenths or 11.8125") and set aside the narrow strip (scrap). I cut the pages a little smaller than 4" because I thought two pieces of cardstock, some with photos and/or embellishments, may be tight to slide into the Flip Flap.

Add one Flip Flap per fold. Add as many hole punches as you would like; it depends on how you want your ribbon to look. I punched twice and fed the ribbon from the back and tied a bow.

I used Ribbet.com and the Blank Canvas Feature to create the pages with journaling on them because I knew it would take a lot of time and patience to stamp all of the names and dates. I put the 3 15/16" x 6" pieces of cardstock in the photo tray on my printer and when printing the journaling, set the Media Type to Plain Paper. Creating and printing the pages like a photograph will make it easy for me to create more albums and to share the pages with family members who do not live close enough to attend the reunion.

I also used Ribbet.com and the Blank Canvas Feature to scale down two of my photos: the siblings and the portrait of my twice great-grandparents. I could have printed the siblings photo, but the digital copy I had was larger than a 6" x 4" photo and their heads would have been close to the edge and their feet would have been partially cut off. I found the portrait of my twice great-grandparents online (someone shared it on their page at https://www.findagrave.com/–I encourage you to look around). When I tried to print this photo, some of it was also going to be cut off. I used Canon My Image Garden and the Photo Layout option to print the photos. I printed the two individual portraits on one 6" x 4" photo.

I could have created many of the pages in Cricut Design Space however, since there is an 11½" limitation on the width of a project, I found it easier to cut everything on my paper trimmer. It also consumes less paper using a paper trimmer since you do not have fit the width to 11½" and leave space around the shapes.
