Dove Tail with Stitched Hexagon Thin Cut

I had planned to share how I dove tailed the banner on this card on the SOTM blog hop, but ran out of time before the post had to go live.

When I was cutting some Stitched Hexagons with the Thin Cuts, I noticed that the piece of cardstock remaining has a dove tailed end so I decided to use the technique on this card (and I will probably use this when I want to create a dove tail in the future).

I started with a Stitched Hexagon Thin Cut that is taller than the strip of cardstock I am working with. I stamped my sentiment first so the image would assist me with far down the strip to place the Thin Cut. I also used a centering ruler to help me place the Thin Cut top to bottom; I placed the point of the Thin Cut at the zero mark on the centering ruler. I used iCraft Removable Purple Tape to hold the Thin Cut to the cardstock so it would not shift then running the die and cardstock through my die cutting machine.

When the left end of the Thin Cut passed through the machine, I reversed the direction I was cranking the handle to back the plates out of the machine (though, if you need another dove tail from the same color/width of cardstock, you could pass it all of the way through).

The photo above shows the sentiment I used on the card front and what the back of the cardstock strip looks like when the cardstock is cut in two; the right piece could be used for an arrow on another project.

If you had not thought of using the Stitched Hexagon Thin Cut to create a dove tail, I hope you will give this a try. With five dies in the package a variety of cardstock widths can be cut.

When you give this a try, please come back and let me know how it worked for you.
