I searched a bit and I believe this is a Red-shouldered Hawk. This visitor stayed long enough (and was calm enough) that I was able to change lenses on my camera and get out a step-stool so I would be high enough to avoid photographing through the screen covering the lower half of my kitchen window. They were quiet enough when they arrived and departed that I missed both so I am not certain how long they stayed, but it was an exciting visit while it lasted.
