Today's video, Artbooking Made Easy: Celebration Layouts (S01E16), is the latest in the video series Artbooking Made Easy. Please stop back weekly until April 2014 to view additional videos in the series. Each video has tips and tricks for using the Artbooking collection.

The CTMH Corp. description of this week's video Artbooking Made Easy: Celebration Layouts (S01E16) is "With the Cricut® Artbooking cartridge from Close To My Heart and your own priceless photos in hand, you'll have all you need to celebrate life's finest memories. • the Celebration themed keys are found on pages 86 and 87 of the handbook
  • "happy" was cut with Real Dial Size at 1 1/4 inches
  • the number border was also cut with Real Dial Size (the size was not mentioned; I would try 10 inches for my first attempt to reproduce this layout)
  • use a photo frame to highlight a number - if you are trying to recreate this layout, the photo frames were cut at 3 and 5 inches using Real Dial Size
  • "cake and ice cream" was cut at 1 1/4 inches using Real Dial Size
  • more details along with some close-up photos and a supply list are posted on Jeanette Lyntons' blog

Washi Wonderland

The latest video on Close To My Heart's YouTube Channel is Washi Wonderland. In the video we are shown ideas for using Washi tape to cover album pages and how to create Washi tape die cuts from our Cricut® cartridges.

Today's video is Washi Wonderland. The CTMH Corp. description is "Create your own washi wonderland by mixing, layering, and mounting washi tape strips on Close To My Heart's Dimensional Elements album pages for a fresh look. Cover the Dimensional Elements shapes directly or layer the washi tape on cardstock then cut coordinating album pages from the Artiste cartridge and Cricut® machine for uniquely patterned designs."

Products used in the video:
Some of the tips mentioned in the video:
  • for an organic look, do not cover the entire page and rip the Washi tape for an uneven edge
  • to create clean cuts on the Cricut®, cover some White Daisy cardstock with Washi Tape and then cut the cardstock
  • for another clean edge, put the Washi tape on the album page then use the sanding block to create a clean edge with a rustic look - Dimensional Elements Album Pages (Z1791) were used in the video

If you have resisted trying Washi Tape so far, I hope today's video inspired you to give it a try. If you are ready to place an order the Show Now button will take you to my Online Business Address.

Create the Date - Personalized Calendars

The latest video in the Clearly the Best Crafting with Close To My Heart series is Clearly the Best: Create the Date (S02E11). The video inspires us to create a calendar using Artbooking and the Designed Décor flip stand.

The CTMH Corp. description of today's video Clearly the Best: Create the Date (S02E11) is "Craft an adorable calendar with the Cricut® Artbooking cartridge and Designed Décor flip stand album from Close To My Heart. Decorate the pages with your favorite papers, embellishments, and photos of your favorite people! Watch the video to get started."

Some of the tips mentioned in the video:
  • use real dial size for the overlay and embellishments
  • the base is cut by hand and is 6 inches tall and 5 3/4 inches wide
  • use a 1/8 inch punch to create holes in the base to add the "pages" to the flip stand
This calendar would make a wonderful gift for the November/December gift giving season. Everyone of any faith can use a calender - especially a personalized calendar. If you are ready to place an order the Show Now button will take you to my Online Business Address.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Creating a Focal Point for that Special Photograph

Swirlin' Shapes is the latest video in the Clearly the Best Crafting with Close To My Heart series. This video gives us some wonderful ideas for using graduated shapes (in both size and colors) to create a focal point for our photograph.

Today's video is Clearly The Best: Swirlin' Shapes (S02E10). The CTMH Corp. description is "Close To My Heart shows you how to make a photo focal point on your layouts by swirling shapes made with our Cricut® cartridges."

Some of the tips mentioned in the video:
  • change the measurement units on your Cricut® to millimeters for more precise cutting
  • you may want to use a re-positionable adhesive for this project
  • "jump up" to the next size when you choose to; there are no "rules"
  • the paper colors/prints have no order; lay them down how they appeal to you
  • this project takes some time to get all of the shapes lined up the way you want then adhered down
  • the shapes were later stitched down with a sewing machine

I hope today's video inspired you to try create a layout that really highlights that special photograph even if the layout takes much longer to create. In the end the results will be worth it. If you are ready to place an order the Show Now button will take you to my Online Business Address.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Artbooking Made Easy: Elegant Mini Albums

Today's video is Artbooking Made Easy (S01E15): Elegant Mini Albums. It is the latest (fifteenth) in the video series Artbooking Made Easy. Please check back each week until April 2014 to view the next video in the series. Each video has tips and tricks for using the Artbooking collection.

The CTMH Corp. description of this week's video, Artbooking Made Easy: Elegant Mini Albums is "Care for classy creations? Grace your eyes with artwork made from the elegance-themed keys of the Cricut® Artbooking Collection from Close To My Heart. See the video for your first tasteful touch with these keys and the elevated works of art they produce."

A few points I want to be certain that you do not miss while watching the video:
  • the albums are created with the Elegance themed-keys are on pages 46 and 47 of the Artbooking Handbook
  • the first Elegant Mini Album shown, Cherish Love, is 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches; set your dial at 11 inches with four exceptions:
  1. the Love title was cut from the Artiste cartridge
  2. "Special" was cut at 2 inches
  3. the patterned purple piece was cut at 7 inches (this is the piece that has journaling on top of it)
  4. "Always And Forever" was cut at 2 1/2 inches
  • the photo page was printed on cardstock and cut in the bracket shape on page 47 (photo mat 2)
  • the first thing to do is attach your damask overlay to the Kraft base page
  • on the inside front cover always start building from the bottom up; add flat pieces first and bulky pieces later
  • do your stamping first - before adding bulky pieces to the page or to the "back side" of the page
  • then attach flat pieces followed by bulky pieces
  • the second mini album, Special, was created with the dial size set to 8 inches tall with these  exceptions:
  1. some of these items were cut at 10 inches, but do not use real dial size; they are:
  2. "Special" title on the front cover
  3. the two photo clips (also on the front cover)
  4. the Sweet Leaf cardstock border
  5. "Absolutely" which is set on its side later in the book
  • here is a tip for checking the largest dial size for each element: choose real dial size; enter the shape on your Cricut®; choose fit to page then choose OK; the Cricut® will calculate and display the largest size on the machine's display
  • reminder: the Cricut® always measures in height from the top to the bottom; when watching the video, note that the top point and bottom point are not always above and below each other, e.g., the top of the "A" and bottom of the "y" in "absolutely"
  • more details along with some close-up photos and a supply list are posted on Jeanette Lyntons' blog
If you have missed earlier videos in the Artbooking Made Easy series, I am maintaining a list so they are easier to find. Just look for CTMH Cricut® Artbooking Collection in the green bar above.

December CTMH Festive Friday Blog Hop

Welcome to our December CTMH Festive Friday Blog Hop. You should have arrived here from The Sassy Scrapper - Theresa Miller. If so, you are on the right path, however this is a circular hop so you can start anywhere and just work your way around to where you started (you will find a list of all of the stops at the bottom of this post).

I am a little sad since this is the last of our Festive Friday Blog Hops. I hope you have enjoyed hopping with us since August. If you missed any of the previous hops, the permalinks can be found in the green bar above under Festive Friday Blog Hop.

Today I am sharing an ornament based on some I pinned in years past. I was reminded of those pins when I saw PageMaps 12 Days of Ornaments. You will find the ornaments I have pinned (and many others) on my Christmas Crafts Board.

Here's how the ornament started. I purchased it at a craft and hobby store. This is the smallest single-purchase ornament this store carried. The did have smaller ornaments but they were in a multi-pack. [Click on any image for a larger photo.]

201312FestiveFriday_ornament

Below is how the ornament looks from one side. Unfortunately I could not take photos with the ornament on a tree because we are not putting up a Christmas tree this year. We have a few young cats we rescued and we are fairly certain would love to climb (and perhaps destroy) the tree. We will probably compensate for no inside tree by putting a "Charlie Brown" style tree on our front porch. We are set far enough from the road that most people will not realize the tree is not inside.

201312FestiveFriday_side1

I used all three of the Sparkle & Shine B&T Duos™ paper (X7176B). I cut the strips of paper 1/8" x 12". I then cut the strips to 6" in length. I used approximately 10 1/8" by 6" strips from each paper. I used a pencil to roll some of the papers, but I switched to the Quilling Tool (Z1795) then used my fingers to loosen and shape the coils. I used a Zip Strip from one of the papers for each side of the banner. A poinsettia and button (below) from the Mini-Medley Accents Ruby Collection (Z1861) and cranberry twine from the Baker's Twine Harvest Assortment (Z1751) finish the embellishing.

201312FestiveFriday_side2

Here is a closeup of one side of the banner and embellishments.

Before you head off to the next stop, Scrappin' with Ash - Ashley Denny, here is a sneak peek of the NEW embellishments that are included in the January 2014 promotion "Cloud Nine".

Sneak Peek Cloud Nine

In addition to being included in the "Cloud Nine" kit, they will be available for individual purchase on February 1 when the Spring/Summer 2014 CTMH Idea Book is released. Be sure to check with your CTMH Independent Consultant later this month or the beginning of January to learn more about "Cloud Nine". If you do not have a consultant yet, I would be happy to assist you.

The hop is organized by Diane Tuggle and starts at her blog The Happy Scrapbooker. Here are all of the stops on the Festive Friday Blog Hop:
Thank you for stopping by today. And many thanks to Diane for organizing this hop.

An Oldie, but a Goodie

You are probably familiar enough with YouTube to know when you view a video that you will be offered other videos to view based on what you just viewed. Recently YouTube suggested Autumn Projects to Fall For (S02E10). This video was posted a little over 3 years ago so some of the products and pricing have changed, but there are still some great tips and ideas presented.

The video I am sharing today is Autumn Projects to Fall For (S02E10) and the CTMH Corp. description is "You'll fall head over heels for the techniques featured in this episode! Add subtle texture and a variety of colors with tissue stamping; create layouts, cards, mini albums, and home décor with Flip Flaps™; and learn how to cluster embellishments and move or resize them in Studio J®. With all this inspiration, you'll be unstoppable in all your autumn artwork, so tune in now!"

The video shows tissue stamping (yes, stamping using facial tissues) and a variety of ways to use Flip Flaps™. The Memory Protectors® Flip Flaps™ 12" Assortment (Z1325) was released shortly before the video was recorded. The video also has suggestions for clustering embellishments in Studio J® but the idea is relevant to scrapbooking with paper too.

I hope today's video inspires you to try a new stamping technique, a new product or to try creating layouts with Studio J®.

If you are ready to place an order the Show Now button will take you to my Online Business Address (OBA). Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Artbooking Made Easy: Wintertime Layouts

Today's video, Artbooking Made Easy (S01E14): Wintertime Layouts, is the latest (fourteenth) in the video series Artbooking Made Easy. Please stop back each week until April 2014 to view the next video in the series. Each has tips and tricks for using the Artbooking collection.

This CTMH Corp. description of this week's video, Artbooking Made Easy: Wintertime Layouts is "The wintery images from Close To My Heart's Cricut® Artbooking cartridge will melt your heart! Watch for inspiration on how to make the frosty shapes, titles, borders, and overlays fall into place on your layouts to give them a little sparkle!"

A few points I want to be certain that you do not miss while watching the video:
  • the wintertime themed-keys are on pages 76 and 77 of the Artbooking Handbook
  • there are 28 wintertime images to choose from
  • the Frosty Fun layout includes Cricut® cut and stamped snowflakes on the left page; the cluster of Cricut® cut snowflakes on the right page is the overlay from page 76, to get this look cut the overlay at 11 inches using Colonial White cardstock and place an 11 inch square of patterned paper behind it, use the stitch guide or a sewing machine to stitch them together, the overlay in the video was sponged with Crystal Blue ink
  • the Juniper cardstock in the background is stamped randomly in tone-on-tone; the key to random stamping is to stamp the images in a triangle pattern and let some of the images go off the page
  • the Just Chillin' layout uses images from both keys; the blotch of color on the left page is created with a pigment ink pad that is swiped on the page - the technique is demonstrated in the video
  • more details about the third layout along with some close-up photos and a supply list are posted on Jeanette Lyntons' blog
If you have missed earlier videos in the Artbooking Made Easy series, I am maintaining a list so they are easier to find. Just look for CTMH Cricut® Artbooking Collection in the green bar above.

Scallops Made Simple

I do not know about you, but I never was really thrilled with the scalloped border I created with the corner rounder. CTMH solved that problem by introducing a new scallop border punch. The video Simple Scallops shows us just how easy it is to create scallop borders with the punch.

Today's video is Simple Scallops. The CTMH Corp. description is "Adding clean, handmade borders to your papers is a cinch with the new scallop border punch from Close To My Heart! Check out the video for a peek at how simple and stunning it really is."

The Scallop Border Punch is item number Z1851.

If you would like to schedule a Gathering so you and your friends can try the Scallop Border Punch, do not hesitate to contact me. If you are ready to place an order the Show Now button will take you to my Online Business Address.

Subway Tiles

Subway Speak is the latest video in the series Clearly the Best Crafting with Close To My Heart. The video inspires us to create home décor pieces using a few products (listed below).

Today's video is Clearly The Best: Subway Speak (S02E09). The CTMH Corp. description is "Say it with subway art! Make a tile using this fun technique and the My Creations™ 6" x 6" canvas display from Close To My Heart."

Products used in the video:
Some of the tips mentioned in the video:
  • this project needs time to dry between the steps - sometimes it is best to let it dry overnight
  • make sure you mix enough paint and re-inker to cover your canvas from the start as it may be difficult to match the color if you run out
  • mix the paint and re-inker with something solid like a bone folder - not your paintbrush - because the color may get unevenly distributed in the brush during mixing
  • for your masks use repositionable adhesive and make sure it adheres well all the way to the edges so paint does not seep under the mask; this will give you crisp edges
  • distress the edges with Archival Black ink
I hope today's video inspired you to try create your own subway tiles. If you are ready to place an order the Show Now button will take you to my Online Business Address.

Artbooking Made Easy: Friendship Layouts

Today's video, Artbooking Made Easy (S01E13): Friendship Layouts, is the latest (thirteenth) in the video series Artbooking Made Easy. Please stop back each week until April 2014 to view the next video in the series. Each has tips and tricks for using the Artbooking collection.

This week's video is Artbooking Made Easy (S01E13): Friendship Layouts. The CTMH Corp. description of the video is "Here's a friendly tip: try the friendship-themed keys of the Cricut® Atbooking cartridge from Close To My Heart for layouts that shout in celebration of your cherished relationships! See the video for more friendly inspiration then contact your friendly Independent Consultant to learn more."

A few points I want to be certain that you do not miss while watching the video:
  • the Friendship keys are on pages 78 and 79 of the Artbooking handbook
  • cut the overlay in the same color as the background cardstock so you can create depth without drawing the attention away from your photos
  • create entirely different layouts while using the same Artbooking die-cuts by rotating the cuts, swapping the the left and right pages and using different color papers
  • for some close-up and still photos of the layouts, visit Jeanette Lynton's Artbooking Made Easy: Friendship Layouts blog post

Curtains Sew Easy

Clearly the Best: Curtains Sew Easy (S02E08) shows us how easy it is to create bistro style curtains using any of the Close To My Heart textiles and some simple items you can find a the craft store. Does this video inspire you to create  curtains for a window in your home? My niece was just saying she needs some curtains for her new apartment so I will be sending her a link to this video.

The CTMH Corp. description of the video Clearly the Best: Curtains Sew Easy (S02E08) is "Let Close To My Heart show you how to hand craft your own set of bistro curtains with our terrific textiles, NO sewing involved! Curtains so simple you'll come unstitched!"

Some of the tips mentioned in the video:
  • use Hook Clips (Z1899) and heavy gauge twine to hang the curtains
  • use Heat and Bond on a roll with an iron set to a low temperature without steam to create the hem and sides where you want the edge to look "finished"
  • in the video they used something I believe they called carpet thread to gather the ruffle, but I have successfully used two strands of regular thread to gather; you pull the thread, but to do not pull it very hard like you would be if you were creating yo-yos
I hope today's video inspired you to try create a home décor item. If you are ready to place an order the Show Now button will take you to my Online Business Address.

Here are what the background cardstock pieces looked like before I started adding layers:

06background-wm

Supplies used: Desert Sand, Colonial White, Honey, Goldrush and Outdoor Denim cardstock, Sartia Outdoor Denim Dots B&T Duos® Paper; D1550 My Acrylix® Happy Autumn; C1561 My Acrylix® One-Way Borders; Desert Sand, Goldrush and Outdoor Denim Exclusive Inks® Stamp Pads; Cricut® Artbooking cartridge; Bronze Shimmer Trim (Z1849), Color-Ready Midtown Cork Shapes (Z1868) and Baker's Twine Neutral Assortment (Z1701).

CTMH Fall Album Retreat - Just Chillin'

This is the fifth layout in my album from the CTMH Fall Album Retreat in Salt Lake City, UT which took place the weekend of October 17-19, 2013.

Here is the Just Chillin' layout for my 12" x 12" album:

Here is a closeup of the left page:

05JustChillin_LeftPage-wm

And the right page:

05JustChillin_RightPage-wm

Here are closeups of the some of the embellishments:

05-collage-wm

Supplies used: White Daisy, Whisper, Smoothie and  Lagoon cardstock, Sparkle & Shine Dots B&T Duos® Paper; M1031 My Acrylix® Single Snowflake; C1561 My Acrylix® One-Way Boarders; Whisper and Ruby Exclusive Inks® Stamp Pads; Cricut® Artbooking cartridge, Lagoon Houndstooth Washi Tape (Z1850), Ruby Chevron Ribbon (Z1846), My Crush™ Best Day Ever Assortment (Z1887), Sparkles Clear Assortment (Z1752) and Baker's Twine Neutral Assortment (Z1701).

You cannot see this in the photo, but I painted Stardust Glitz™ Glitter Gel (Z1313) on the White Daisy cardstock that is layered behind the Lagoon cardstock that has "snow" cut into it. What I did was wet a foam brush so the gel would not absorb into the brush too much. Then I squirted a little gel onto a palette and painted the gel on like I would any other paint. The paper did curl a little, but not too much - little enough that adhesive will keep it flat on my layout.

I hope you like my version of the Just Chillin' layout. Thanks for visiting today.

  • the first (Joy to the World) layout is created using images only found on page 74 of the Artbooking handbook
  • if you want to recreate the ombré effect, the colors used are Sweet Leaf, Pear, Topiary and New England Ivy
  • if you want to create glittery stars as shown on the right page, cut a second overlay from glitter paper then trim around the pieces you want to use (don't forget to save the scraps for another project)
  • back cutouts on overlays or photo mats with tone-on-tone cardstock so the background does not show through
  • the second (Merry & Bright) layout is created using images only found on page 75
  • use an overlay as a mask with a spray pen and white pigment ink to mist the background
  • back cutouts on overlays or photo mats with another color cardstock to add dimension to the die cuts
  • the third (Happy Holidays) layout use shapes from both pages and a star shape
  • cover part of the overlay with washi tape to create a different appearance
  • the real dial size feature was used to cut the star icon at different sizes for the third layout
  • use photo mats for journaling spots

November CTMH Festive Friday Blog Hop

Welcome to our November CTMH Festive Friday Blog Hop. You should have arrived here from The Sassy Scrapper - Theresa Miller. If so, you are on the right path, but since this is a circular hop you can start anywhere and just work your way around (you will find a list of all of the stops at the bottom of this post).

Today I am sharing another simple card I made. I like elegant, fancy cards, I just never seem to make them. The idea is loosely based on one of the layouts we did at the Fall Album Retreat.

201311FestiveFridayCard

To be certain it stood out against the Kraft background I stamped the focal flower with Goldrush twice, but I only stamped the leaves once with first generation ink. I also stamped the envelope flap to dress it up a bit. I used first generation ink and overlapped the stamping. I would not stamp it more than I did because I would be afraid that the colors would start to get muddy.

Here is what the Colonial White card base looked like before I added the Kraft cardstock layer. I stamped the Colonial White card base with first and second generation ink so the edges that showed did not look too stark.

201311FestiveFridayCard_background

The ingredients I used to make the card: 5 1/2" X 4 1/4" Colonial White Cards & Envelopes, Value Pack (X1410), 12" X 12" Kraft Cardstock (Z1375), My Acrylix® Happy Autumn Stamp Set (D1550), Desert Sand (Z2118), Goldrush (Z2123), Olive (Z2137) and Outdoor Denim (Z2140) Exclusive Inks® Stamp Pads.

Thank you for hopping with us today. I hope you are getting some great ideas for your holiday cardmaking and paper crafting. Your next stop is Scrappin' with Ash - Ashley Denny.

The hop is organized by Diane Tuggle and starts at her blog The Happy Scrapbooker. Here are all of the stops on the Festive Friday Blog Hop:

Today's video, Artbooking Made Easy: Cross-Cartridge Collaboration (S01E11), is the eleventh in the video series Artbooking Made Easy. In the video we are shown several examples for using two or all of the CTMH exclusive Cricut® cartridges on one project. Please stop back each week until April 2014 to view the next video in the series. Each has tips and tricks for using the Artbooking collection.

This week's video is Artbooking Made Easy: Cross-Cartridge Collaboration (S01E11). Workshops on the Go™: A Package Deal

This is the seventh video in a series created to introduce those in Australia and New Zealand to CTMH products after operations were launched there in July 2013. A Package Deal (07) highlights the Workshops on the Go™ available from Close To My Heart.

The CTMH Corp. description of the video A Package Deal (07) is "With Workshops on the Go™ kits from Close To My Heart, you get a package deal like no other! Save big on time and money by ordering your own kit, which includes everything you need to make 2 elegant two-page layouts or 15 handmade cards. Contact your Close To My Heart Consultant to learn more about the kits and the steep discounts."

To find instructions for creating the second layout shown in the Instructional Guide choose "Additional Layout" under the WOTG™ that you are working with at Workshops on the Go™ at my online business address. The instructions are available for one year after the WOTG™ became available for purchase.

Items featured in the video:
By the way, if this video looks familiar to you, I shared it in September, out of chronological order, because I was exited for everyone to see it.

The answer the question why choose CTMH Workshops on the Go™ is because they are a great value. They include everything that you need to create at least two two-page layouts with some paper and embellishments left over and you get a D-size My Acrylix® stamp set that you can use on future projects. Of course the WOTG™ kits do not include basic supplies (for example, cutting tools, adhesives, My Acrylix® Blocks) buy you probably already have those on hand. If you do not have basic supplies, contact me and I will help you make some selections appropriate for the papercrafting you want to do.

Thanks for visiting with me today.

CTMH Fall Album Retreat - The Sweet Life

This is my third layout from the CTMH Fall Album Retreat in Salt Lake City, UT. I started creating it during the weekend of October 17-19, 2013 and recently finished it.

Here is the The Sweet Life layout for my 12" x 12" album:

03TheSweetLife-wm

I am not happy with my photo selection (plus I did not have one on hand that fit the yellow mat) so I am probably going to look for and use different photos, but I wanted you to see the layout with photos so I used what I had that would fit.

I am not sure what "The Sweet Life of _______" is. I used two vacation photos here and one of my beautiful Pumpkin dipping her toes in the water. Once I figure out what photos I am going to stick with I will figure out the title.

Here is a closeup of the left page:
03TheSweetLife_02LeftPage-wm

And the right page:
03TheSweetLife_02RightPage-wm

And here are some closeups so you can see the details:
03-collage-wm

Supplies used: White Daisy, Whisper, Lagoon and Goldrush cardstock, Huntington Hexagons B&T Duos® Paper; C1561 My Acrylix® One-Way Borders; Whisper ink for spritzing; Whisper, Honey and Goldrush Exclusive Inks® Stamp Pads; Cricut® Artbooking cartridge, Bronze Shimmer Trim (Z1849), Lagoon Houndstooth Washi Tape (Z1850), Color-Ready Midtown Cork Shapes (Z1868), Aqua Dots (Z1853), Sparkles Clear Assortment (Z1752) and Baker's Twine Neutral Assortment (Z1701).

Even though the Fall Album Retreat was fast paced, I had a good time and I would go again.

Let's Do The Twist

Ideas for using the Slate Striped Twist Ties (Z1864) abound in today's video Clearly The Best: Do the Twist (S02E05). At only $3.95 for a package of 20 ties, you can try each idea using only one package and still have some leftover.

The CTMH Corp. description of the video is "When you're celebrating someone special, you need décor to match! Make your own—and make it unique—by curving, bending, wrapping, angling, curling, and coiling Slate striped twist ties from Close To My Heart into party decorations sure to make your guests dance with delight."

Items used in the video:

Some of the tips mentioned in the video are:
  • use twist ties to attach the flags of a banner
  • use them flat to embellish a card like a narrow strip of paper
  • wrap the tie around a pencil to create curly ribbons
  • color the white area of the twist tie with markers - it is better to use lighter colors so the slate still easily shows
  • use a twist tie and a piece of textile (in the video theirs was about 2" x 8") to make your own wire-edged ribbon
  • place the tie between two approximately 8" pieces of Washi tape - sticky sides of Washi together - then bend into the shape you want; in the video it looked like a banner
I hope today's video inspired you to try different techniques with the Slate Striped Twist Ties. If you are ready to place and order, please click the Show Now button below.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I hope you enjoyed the ideas presented in the video.

Artbooking Made Easy: Celebrate Freedom

Today's video, Artbooking Made Easy (S01E10): Freedom Layouts, is the tenth in the video series Artbooking Made Easy. In addition to use the Freedom-themed keys found on pages 64 and 65 as we would traditionally think of freedom, we are given ideas for using them on celebratory layouts as well.

This week's video is Artbooking Made Easy (S01E10): Freedom Layouts. The CTMH Corp. description of the video is "The Cricut® Artbooking cartridge from Close To My Heart has shapes you'll love for your patriotic layouts and cards—and for all celebratory layouts and cards after that! Get great ideas from this video for using the freedom-themed keys to make sparkling titles, photo mats, overlays, and accents for any project."

Featured items used in the video:
A few points I want to be certain that you do not miss while watching the video:
  • use the freedom-themed keys to create patriotic layouts or other life events you would like to celebrate
  • freedom-themed keys are found on page 64 and 65 of the handbook
  • cut titles in half to have the title go across both pages of a two page layout
  • use the icons in various ways; cut with real dial size off to be relative to the page (like the one used to frame the journaling) or with real dial size on and at a smaller size (like the icon that frames the date on the last layout)
  • back the overlays with any cardstock or B&T Duos® or even textiles or choose to not back them so the base cardstock shows through; or only partially back the overlays to create interest and different dimension
  • use the negative space from the photo mats behind a different photo
If you have missed earlier videos in the Artbooking Made Easy series, I am maintaining a list so they are easier to find. Just look for CTMH Cricut® Artbooking Collection in the green bar above.
