Diamond Background Technique

Close To My Heart recently posted this layout with a Diamond Background to their Facebook page:

The layout was created with the Thin Cuts from the Fresh Air Cardmaking Stamp + Thin Cuts (Z4186).

Unfortunately, this product was so popular that stock is no longer available.

But wait, we are creative people and we have options.

Cricut Design Space™ has some free shapes. I looked there is a diamond. I started playing in Design Space and this is what I came up with:

Feel free to use my Design Space project.

I have not cut with this file yet, but I do not anticipate any problems since it is fairly "plain". The DS file has the URL of the Facebook Post in case you want to refer back to it for photo location and embellishment ideas. When using the file I suggest hiding the text, the brown and the white shapes. Personally I would cut the white 11½" square using a paper trimmer.

I was watching a craft channel from the UK and saw Debbi Moore demonstrate this different way to create a step card. I worked up a pattern in Design Space and this is what I came up with (the arrows indicate the center point on each side):

And here is the design translated to paper, embossing folders and stamps:

This version feels stronger than the center step cards we typically see because thinner sides are not supporting the layers and die cuts placed on the center. I think it is also easier to decorate. Yes, you are using more cardstock, but there is a lot less cutting of what can be little pieces. There is the added bonus that you can move the tent part to any location on the card so it can be a center step, left-side step or right-side step card AND this card folds flat and is neater looking (in my opinion) on this inside. I know some people do not like to create their own envelopes, so I sized this card to fit the envelopes that come in the White Cards & Envelopes Value Pack (X254).

I was going to do something else, but I ran out of time. My crafty mojo hasn't been very helpful lately so I got a late start creating for today's hop. I hope to finish that project soon and will share it as soon as I can.

I found a heart in the Artiste bundle (unfortunately it is retired) and played with the sizing until the stamped image looked good on it. I was going to background stamp on the Bashful cardstock, but time was not cooperating with me, so I used the Simple Chevron Embossing Folder

Welcome!

The August 2018 Stamp of the Month is For the Love of Crafting.

For the Love of Crafting (S1808) is an exclusive D-size set of 9 stamps that is only available for purchase during the month of August 2018. The stamp set can be yours for $5 when you place an order of $50 or more in qualifying Close To My Heart products (and you qualify for additional sets at $5 for each $50 you spend). August 2018 — Here’s to You

Craft with Heart™ — CTMH Cut Above® Layout Kit Subscription

This is a new subscription from CTMH featuring Cut Above® layout kits. There will be three options to select from: monthly, 4-month (one delivery of four kits) and 12-month (three deliveries of four kits each). Twelve-month subscribers will also receive 30 free 4" x 6" prints from Persnickety Prints in every box. That is 90 free prints a year!

Please note, the 12-month subscription is now; the monthly and 4-month subscriptions will be available on September 1. You will be able to order the 12-month or 4-month subscription any time Seasonal Expressions is valid and receive all of the kits, but it is while supplies last. Subscriptions will be automatically renewed, but can be canceled at any time. Layout kits received with the Craft with Heart™ subscription cannot be returned or exchanged, but if you receive kits with damaged or missing pieces CTMH will correct or replace the kit within 90 days from the date of purchase. In addition to the products on the retiring lists, it was announced at the CTMH Convention that the following colors are retiring: Crystal Blue, Juniper, Flaxen, Sorbet (from the Whimsy Color Palette), Pacifica, Tangerine, Blossom, Cranberry (from the Adventure Color Palette), Poppy (Adventure Color Palette), and Nutmeg (Basics Color Palette). Also, the Color of the Year, Bashful is retiring August 31. The colors, cardstock combo packs and the pigment inks that are retiring, as well as a list of products that are no longer available are featured here.
